Simple Winter Kitchen Vignette

There's something about January that calls to my sense of simplicity.

Well, actually I have felt the desire to simplify before January.
I was just getting tired of the excess stuff that clogs up my life.

And I wasn't the only one in our family feeling that way.
Our adult children wanted more time as a family and less gifts.
and our décor was slimmed down from other years but was still plenty.
It allowed us to actually enjoy and appreciate what we had out -
the decorations that had memories and meaning.

2014 has had a slow start but the theme for us this year is simplicity.
Do you have a theme or focus for the upcoming year?

Door Decor

Do you decorate more than your front door?
We have few doors on our home
and most of them get some type of décor for Christmas.

Our family room has a country vintage vibe
so this wreath complements it perfectly.

Coming into the main part of the home
from the porch you are greeted with
a little jingle as you go through the door.

And the bells grace the French doors going onto the deck.

This wreath with frosty hues
complements the blues on the front deck.

Pianotop Vignette for Christmas

I wanted something a little different this year
on top of my piano.

When I found these golden angels
I knew they were just what I needed!

I love this one with the fur.

It was the only one of its kind!

They grace either side of this candle holder.

I just love these candles with the gold and poinsettias.

The black ironwork on the candle holder
complements the frame on the mirror.

It's simple but I love this look!

Christmas in the Kitchen

Christmas decorating has begun around our home.
Gone are the days when I could get it done in one day.

Christmas Decorating Day was always a big deal
when the kids were younger.
They got a day off school
and Grandma came over and
everyone had their own special jobs to do.
Of course, there were also special treats too!

Now that the kids are no longer kids, but adults
it takes me a little longer than one day!
However, I do wait to decorate the family tree
until my daughter comes home and we do it together.

So, I started in the kitchen this year.
My kitchen window ledge always gets some seasonal décor!

An uncle-in-law made this beautiful cut glass candle holder
especially for me when he heard how I loved the one
he had made for his daughter.

One of my favorite little bears next to Frosty
puts a smile on my face!

While doing dishes the window ledge vignette
gives a warm and cozy feeling
even while looking out on a snowy landscape.

The other feature spot in my kitchen is the fridge top.
You see it from so many angles in our home.

This year I put up the x-stitched cardinal I did last year.

Along with this musical cardinal hubby found for me at a garage sale.

I have to admit that I love cardinals
and if something has a cardinal on it
I have a hard time passing it by.

Do you add Christmas touches to your kitchen?

Back Door Christmas Welcome

Since our winter weather is usually undpredictable
and consists of everything from snow, to freezing rain,
to rain, to warm and sunny weather and wind
any outdoor decor has to be able to withstand everything.

So I kept it fairly simple this year
with a bow on the chair,
a few lanterns and small trees
and the old pump from my parents farm.

The other side of the door
greets you with Season Greetings.

Some gold cone trees
which I fell in love with last year
and convinced hubby that we needed lol.

In all the lanterns I put in some solar lamps
so in the evening they give off a warm, welcoming glow.

Christmas Cardinal

I love cardinals.
There's just something about them
that I am inexplicably drawn too.

In fact, if I see something with a cardinal on it
I am very hard pressed to pass it by.

So, when I saw this little Cardinal
cross-stitch picture I knew I needed to stitch it.

I am so pleased with how it turned out
and can't wait to display it for Christmas!
