Daring to go Pillow-less

Pillow look so pretty in pictures.

But honestly, my pillow reality is a little less than pretty.

The minute someone goes to sit in the room,
the pillows get piled onto a chair
or put beside the chair
and then the electronics get stuffed
in between or on top of the pillows.

So, in order to keep my life a lot simpler,
I have decided to go pillow-less -
at least for now.

I added the red couch slipcover
to give the room a pop of color
and added a tan throw blanket,
and the rest of the room has
a simple and clean look -
perfect for summer.

Do pillows work for you?

Unexpected Living Room Make Over - Before & After

A few years ago we did a living room make over
and I thought it would pretty much
stay the same for awhile.

However, in the decision to downsize
and a very quick sale of the piano
I found I was in the middle of an
unexpected living room make over.

After the piano went out
I decided the fireplace needed to go as well
and I replaced it with a smaller, corner fireplace
which was half price.

I also wanted one more chair
and found this one on Kijiji
for only $40 in mint condition!
I don't think anyone ever sat on it.

For now I have the couch cover off
but I can always put it back on
for a different look.

I fell in love with these cushions
that I found at JYSK
and even better, they were on clearance!

We are enjoying the new look
and the feeling of space
in our living room make over.

Living Room Make Over

Way back in April I gave you a Sneak Peak into what we were doing in our living room.
Today I am finally showing you the finished product.

So, after a whole lot of patching, sanding, painting, putting up crown moulding
and general getting down and dirty...

we were beginning see light at the end of the make over tunnel.

The walls, which were a light rose color are now a soft cream color,
and the window trim which was a dark rose color is now white.

This was not the original area rug I had picked up
but it fits in perfectly with the bolder colors
of the furniture and pulls it all together
with the textures and pattern.

I found this perfect lamp to go behind my chair
where I x-stitch, giving me perfect light in the evenings.
I just love the leaf work accents,
which complement the new look of the room.

This room would not have come together without the amazing sewing skills of my mom.
She made all the slipcovers for the chairs and couch
giving the room a completely different feel.
They don't even look like the same chairs!

I love how the couch went from a tan to a bright red,
and even better is the fact I can remove and wash
the slipcover so easily.

Now, every time I walk into this room
I get a smile of delight on my face.

Living Room Sneak Peek

The past few months have been busy.
Between fighting the colds we decided
it was time to give the living room a new look.
So here is a sneak peek at what we have been up to.

This is right after we started moving out the furniture
before we got into the nitty gritty of it all.
It's hard to tell but the walls are a light pink,
the trim is rose colored and the border is floral burgundy.

I just love using fabric softner to take down wallpaper and border.
It is so easy and makes the room smell nice too :)

Hubby upgraded the wiring and added some more plugs.

Crown moulding and paint!
That was a fun shopping trip.

I seriously enjoy working with power tools
and this little power sander is a dream to use.
From top to bottom it is getting a whole new look.
We are in the final stages and it should be ready to reveal soon!
