Around Our Sunday Table - Keeping It Simple

Thou hast given so much to me,
Give one thing more, - a grateful heart;
Not thankful when it pleaseth me,
As if Thy blessings had spare days,
But such a heart whose pulse may be Thy praise.
~George Herbert~

As we gather around our Sunday table
it is time for us to stop and reflect
on the many things we have to be thankful for.

With the heat we have had the past few weeks
I am thankful for the air conditioning we have
and also the opportunity to enjoy a simple meal outside.

It has been wonderful to visit with family members again
in a "normal" environment.
We can see their faces!

What are you thankful for today?

The Odd Time Between Winter & Spring

I find the time between winter and spring
an odd time for outdoor décor.

Once it is warm enough to take down the Christmas decor
I am left with just empty space that I think needs filling.

But it's too early for flowers.

And anything I do put out
has to be able to handle the unpredictable weather -
snow, freezing rain, wind and sleet.

So, I put together this little back door vignette
to fill the empty space
and it should be able to handle the weather.

What do you do with this time
between winter & spring?

Back Door Christmas Welcome

We live in a small town
where friends & family
always come through the back door.

Our back door says "Welcome home!"
after a long day away at work.

Or
"Welcome! We are so glad you came!"
to our friends.

I love coming around the corner
and seeing our cozy little nook
at the back door.

It has a way of warming the heart
before you're even in the door.

Do you decorate at your back door?

Fall Nature Vignette

I wasn't even sure if I was going
to do any outdoor decorating this year.
But, the weather was beautiful
and I couldn't resist the call of the outdoors.

Before I knew it I was snipping a bit from here
and a bit from there and putting it all together
to make a natural fall arrangement.

I used some dry strawflowers
from a flowerbed I cleaned out,
some dried weeds and some fall branches.

I added the driftwood from our spring holiday
at the ocean for interest.

A simple fall arrangement
made from things around the yard,
and it didn't cost me a penny!

Back Door Pumpkins

My parents surprised me with some
pumpkins from their garden.

Since all the flowers at my back door
have finished for the season
I decided to make a
"Back Door Pumpkin Vignette".

I used the pumpkins from my parents garden
and added some caragana branches from our yard.

For a bit of color I trimmed off a few leaves
 from our Virginia Creeper

I felt it needed a little bit more
so I added some of the berries
from the Virginia Creeper as well.

I just love the combination of colors,
orange, green, yellow, red and deep purple.

The wire frame is an old gate
that has good memories for our family
and the old pump is from
my grandparents farm.

It certainly does add a touch of fall
to our back door.
Do you like to decorate with things from
around your yard?

Outdoor Dining

Our weather has finally been nice enough to enjoy some outoor dining.

I picked some flowers from the garden
and used the tealight holder as a flowervase.

I found these plates on clearance for $4.00 for the set.

I put the plates on these rust colored chargers.

I added the orange napkins which complemented the flowers.

And we had a simple outdoor table to enjoy.

Another Deck

You probably remember this little corner I showed you
where I like to sit and have a morning coffee.
Well, I thought I would show you the rest of the deck.

We have french doors off our dining room area
which lead onto this deck.
In this corner I have a temporary greenhouse.
It has been so cool and rainy here that I have
been housing some plants here until it warms up
enough to put them out into the garden.

On a warm summer day this deck
provides a nice cool shady spot to enjoy our evening meal.

This bright little table cloth I found at a thrift store.
All I had to do was cut a little hole in the middle.

These little tealight holders my hubby picked up for me.
They have little hearts on the top :)
and they are made of cast iron and are quite heavy.
They are great for holding down the tablecloth
when the breeze picks up.

This is my favorite newest addition.
I found it at a local garden center on clearance.

I hope as the summer progresses that the flowers will fill up
and overflow this watering can.

And last but not least, my friendly little owl,
who peeks out at you as you come to our back door :)
