Garden Markers

How do you stake your garden?
Until now I've always used scrap wood stakes
and tried to label them but
it's hard to write on old rough wood
and usually the marker fades.
So, I came up with an idea.
Do you remember the solar jar lights I made?
Well, they didn't use the stake of the solar light
and I was not going to let them just go to waste,
I had a plan.

First I printed off some vintage seed labels
and cut them out along with a blank sheet
of the same size.

I then taped the top and sides
but left the bottom open.

These little packets then slide right over the top
of the solar light stake.

And are so easy to put in the soft, tilled ground.
Much better than my old, clunky, scrap wooden stakes.

I then covered them with some mason jars
to protect the label from the elements.
A clear mason jar would work best
but I didn't have any as all of mine
have patterns on the jar.
I will be on the lookout for some unpatterened jars
this summer at garage sales.
And it works!
We've had rain and snow since I've planted
and my labels have remained the same
as the day I staked them.
And even better,
I think they look so much cuter inthe garden
than plain, old, scrap stick markers.

And since I was out with my camera
I thought I'd take some pics!

Remember the strawberry row I cleaned out?
Well, the strawberries are now blooming!

The apple tree blossoms are just beginning to open.

In the rose garden I am working on (pics to come)
the little violas are so happy.

If you look closely you can see

And some hidden treasures in my forgotten garden.
(more to come on this)

And the Virgina Creeper on the garage
is starting to fill out.
If you want to see what this looks like in the fall
you can take a quick peek here!
Hope you enjoyed my little garden tour :)

  13. Cute, cute, cute! I need to do this as my garden marker (on old wooden stakes) faded in the rain and who knows what I'm growing now! :~O
