Week In Review

It has been another great week.
Saturday we got together with family and celebrated
my mom's 72nd birthday.
It's so good to be able to get back together again.

Sunday we got a break from the heat and it rained!
It was so cool we turned on the fireplace
and enjoyed some time watching The Tomorrow War.

Monday & Tuesday were uneventful with long hours at work.
Wednesday when looking out my windows
I noticed a kitty enjoying a nap
on our outdoor furniture.
I do miss having a pet.

The rest of the week was spent getting ready to travel.
Do you think we have enough masks?

Weekend Deals

To be honest, I am not a big shopper.

But while talking to my daughter about our upcoming trip
she emphasized that I would suffer terribly
from the heat and humidity
and she highly recommended shorts, tank tops and dresses.

These are not staples in my wardrobe as I usually wear
longer capris and I the dresses I have are for at home wear
and are not something I would wear out and about.

So I decided I had better do a shopping trip and see what I could find.
I did find two dresses I am quite happy with an a couple of outfits
that will be cool and comfortable.
Even better, everything was 50% off or more
as I hit the season end clearance sales.

Now that's the kind of shopping I like!

My Week In Review

After being away from our campsite for two weeks
and with the extreme heat we have been having,
I was pleasantly surprised to find my flowers had survived.

On one of our evening strolls we were able to get pretty
close to this deer who didn't seem to mind us being there at all.

It's hard to believe that the end of our camping season
is getting so close.
We loaded up our bikes to take back home
as we will be using them more there
for the remaining weeks than we would at our campsite.

A nice little surprise came in the mail - 2 pretty bags.

I also packaged up a little surprise of my own
to send to my daughter and son-in-law.

I finished off the week by portioning out some chicken breasts
we had bought in bulk and put them in the freezer.

I hope you had a wonderful week.

Forever Coleslaw

While it is fun to experiment with new recipes
and to try new flavors,
sometimes there is nothing quite as yummy
as an good old-fashioned recipe.

Ingredients
1 bag of coleslaw mix
1/2 medium onion, chopped

1/3 cup vinegar
1/4 cup oil
3/4 cups sugar
1/2 Tbsp. celery salt

Combine coleslaw mix and chopped onion in a bowl.

Put remaining ingredients into a saucepan.
Bring to a boil, stirring frequently.
Pour hot over coleslaw mix.
Stir to mix, pressing down until vegetables wilt
and are covered with the brine.
Cool. Store in a covered container in the refrigerator.
The flavors get better as it ages.

What is  your favorite coleslaw recipe?

For today...
Tuesday, August 10, 2021

Looking out my window...
Hot and smoky.

I am thinking...
How it wasn't as busy as it could have been at work
after a long weekend.

I am thankful for...
Extra days of work.

One of my favorite things...
Relaxing spa music.

I am creating...
 Not too much.

I am wearing...
Black sweats and a blue camo t-shirt.

I am hearing...
The fan and soft music playing

I am reading...

Around the house...
Just basic housecleaning.

In my kitchen...
Leftovers tonight.

In my garden...
Things are hanging on despite the smoke & heat.

Weekend Adventures - Crowsnest Lake

The carrier racks to carry our kayaks on our car
finally came in after being on backorder.

We were very excited to get the kayaks loaded up
and head out for our first kayaking trip of the season.

The wind was very calm so we headed to Crowsnest Lake.
It is usually quite windy at this lake
so you grab the chance to go when you can.

From Crowsnest Lake you can kayak under the bridge
which connects onto Emerald Lake.

This is the first time we have done this.
The water was a little low so we had to carry
the kayaks to the other side.

Once on Emerald Lake we had a beautiful
but hazy view of Crow Mountain.

And very calm, clear waters.

The breeze did start to pick up
so we decided it was time to head back.

On the way back we saw a family of Mountain Goats.
We just stopped and watched them for awhile.
We were close enough that we could hear them bleating.

And finally back to our site where we pulled out the gravity chairs
and it was time to
"Sip back and relax".

Hope you had a weekend of fun & adventure.
