The Simple Woman's Daybook

For today...  Sunday, July 31, 2016

Looking out my window... Clear & sunny skies.

I am thinking...  Of how nice my feet feel after giving them a pedicure.

I am thankful... That hubby's health is improving.

One of my favorite things... Quiet mornings at home.

I am wearing... Black maxi skirt with a cream & red floral top.

I am creating... Nothing on the go at the moment - the yard work takes all my spare time.

I am reading... The Life Giving Home by Sally Clarkson

I am hoping... We have good weather for when we go camping.

I am learning... To accept things with grace that are beyond my control.

In my kitchen...  Coconut Chicken w/Spinach, Coconut Flour Biscuits, Oven Baked  Zucchini, Rainbow Chakra Salad, Almond Joy Bars

In my garden...

A few plans for the rest of the week... Just the usual around the home and work.

Shared quote... You are only as beautiful as your last action. ~Stephen Richards~

A moment from my day...

Closing Notes...

Father/Daughter time as they track down some pokemon..
I get to tag along with the camera & dog :)

Daring to go Pillow-less

Pillow look so pretty in pictures.

But honestly, my pillow reality is a little less than pretty.

The minute someone goes to sit in the room,
the pillows get piled onto a chair
or put beside the chair
and then the electronics get stuffed
in between or on top of the pillows.

So, in order to keep my life a lot simpler,
I have decided to go pillow-less -
at least for now.

I added the red couch slipcover
to give the room a pop of color
and added a tan throw blanket,
and the rest of the room has
a simple and clean look -
perfect for summer.

Do pillows work for you?

Cleaning the Fridge & Making It Pretty

Today was the perfect day to get the fridge cleaned out.
I try to give it a quick wipe out every week
but it has been neglected this past month
so it needed a good cleaning and going through.

I even took the time and cleaned
and reorganized the door
(which I tend to skip if I'm in a hurry)

What I love best about cleaning the fridge
is the amount of space that suddenly appears!

Which will get quickly filled up when I go shopping tomorrow!

I keep a basket of assorted teas on top of the fridge
and decided to make a new little vignette.

I decided to go with a tea theme
to go with the basket of teas.

Plus, tea is definitely appropriate
since our weather has been so cool and rainy this past week.

We have had severe storm warnings
and tornado watches every day this week.

And tonight was quite the storm.

Thankfully, there wasn't much damage.

As the storm passed we could still see it out our back window.

But it looked like a beautiful evening out our front window.
Hopefully we are done with storms for now!

Not Born to be a Storm Chaser

Last night after work I drove up to the big city
with my mom & daughter to take my daughter
to the airport for her 1:00 a.m. flight.
We had a beautiful drive up and made good time.
We got my daughter dropped off for her flight
and headed back to the hotel.
The next morning we woke to gray skies
and storm warnings all over the place.
Well, we debated over taking some time
to do some shopping first or heading straight home.

Doing some shopping won as there was a nice big
shopping mall only 3 minutes from our hotel
and it was on our way out of the city!

I found this cute little sugar bowl and blanket -
both were 50% of the sale price.

And this dress as 60% off!
Such great deals!

But then the rain began.
And not just rain, it was a torrential downpour,
with thunder & lightning.
It took over twice as long just to get out of the city
and we had to pull over 4 separate times.
We also had hail on the drive
and swirling tornado clouds right beside the car.
It was a very long drive home!
Some people were stopping to take pictures
of the storm but not me -
I stepped on the gas and got out of there
as fast as I could
I was not born to be a storm chaser! lol
Thankfully we made it home safe & sound.

The one catastrophe of the trip was this flower vase
I had sitting on my dresser.
The wind blew through the open window,
caught the curtain which caught the vase
and sent it tumbling to the floor.
Oh well, I was thinking of redoing that
vignette on the dresser anyways.

Down on the Farm

One of my favorite ways to spend a Sunday afternoon
is down at my parent's farm.

It's always a nice time when we get together as a family.

My dad put in a waterwheel & little pond this year
and it is so relaxing to sit around underneath the pergola.
It's a great way to get refreshed before another crazy week begins.

How do you like to relax?
